n the late Victorian and Edwardian eras dogs became important family members, as dogs are today. In wealthy homes their portraits were painted and when they died they were buried in private cemeteries complete with headstones and heart-felt inscriptions. See such a cemetery at Preston Manor and find out more about the lives and personalities of these fondly-remembered pets. Includes rarely-seen archive photographs. Dogs are especially welcome on this tour. Event not suitable for children under the age of 4.

Access
Pathways in the walled garden are quite narrow and grassy although they are accessible. The site is adjacent to Preston Park where there are facilities such as toilets and cafes.

Additional information
Max 25 people per tour/session. The event is in the gardens of Preston Manor which is open to the public and welcomes visitors. Inside the house the famous dog portraits can be seen as well as other dog-related objects. The house is a beautifully preserved example of Edwardian life upstairs and downstairs and contains a small temporary display relating to the the First World War. Although there is no cafe at Preston Manor the immediate area is well-served with cafes and public houses serving all tastes.
