Brighton & Hove Women's History Group

Brighton & Hove Women's History Group meet here at the Town House each month to research and discuss the role of women in the history of our city and county.

The stated mission of the group is as follows:

The Group works to raise awareness of women’s contribution to the history of Sussex, especially in Brighton and Hove - and, in so doing, challenge sexism and prejudice.

The group's objectives are:

  • Research, collect and where possible publish information on the historic contribution of women and girls to the life and heritage of Brighton and Hove.
  • Facilitate public events that mark and celebrate Women’s History Month in March.
  • Advise and assist the Council and other local bodies as appropriate.
  • Encourage others to celebrate women’s history.
