Description - Every day hundreds of trains hurtle under this Gothic folly whose imposing castellated towers protect the old tunnel keeper's cottage. But for most people this secluded building remains a mystery. What are its historical origins? What lies behind the commanding battlements? And what’s it like having trains running right beneath your living room? This tour will answer all these questions and more. NOTE: DUE TO SPACE LIMITATIONS, NO ONE WILL GRANTED ACCESS UNLESS THEY HOLD A CONFIRMED BOOKING. WE REGRET THAT WE CANNOT ADMIT ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18.
Location - Tunnel Cottage, Clayton Hill, Clayton, BN6 9PQ ((NOTE: The site is actually slightly north of the location shown on the Google Map HERE).
Timing - Sunday 15 September: Tours: 1400, 1600, 1800
Restrictions - Max - 12 people/tour. Free activity but pre-booking essential. Booking opens: 16 August 2013 at 12:00 hrs. Booking closes: 14 September 2013 at 18:00 hrs
Access - Partial wheelchair access. NOTE - Access to Tunnel Cottage grounds is via a gravel track and rutted earth paths. Venue operator prepared to assist wheelchair users with pre-notification. Email nick@rth.org.uk referencing 'Tunnel Cottage' if assistance is required. Refreshments. Toilets.
